Unose is a sanctuary where the "Omizuokuri" ritual is held every year on March 2 to send water to the Nigatsudo Hall of Todaiji Temple in Nara. In the Omizukuri ritual, a torchlight procession led by yamabushi (mountain priests) and priests dressed in white from Jinguji Temple, located a little downstream from here, proceed to Unose. After a sacred bonfire is ignited on the riverbank, the chief priest of Jinguji reads a prayer of and pours the sacred water into the Unose River. It is said to take 10 days to reach the Wakasai well in Todaiji's Nigatsudo Hall, and on March 12, the "Omizutori" ceremony is held at Todaiji.
